“It is better to be safety conscious than unsafe and unconscious” – a famous quote, that tells all professional drivers are required to carry the responsibility of the safety of others and it involves wisdom on the road.

To keep us alive and safe while driving and when confronted by some unexpected moments on the road, here are some collective guides to consider when we are behind the wheels.

• Constantly Use Your Common Sense Always use your best common-sense judgment and refer to specific road rules and instructions.
• Always Be Alert Survey everything around you and look ahead when we’re on the road. Be aware of who’s in front of us, beside and behind us at all times.
• Check Weather Reports Be updated on the weather conditions before departing for a trip. Check the weather reports as much as possible.
• Avoid Traffic Always plan an alternative route. Avoid traveling at high volume traffic and during rush hours. It is more common to have an accident when there are more vehicles on the road.

• Personally Check Out Delivery Spots Most of the drivers can easily get trapped when the docking facility is not suitable for big rigs. Look around for yourselves if there are obstacles to avoid accidents when backing up.
• Be Most Alert At Night Extra caution at night is worth it especially when there are tight maneuvering situations. Be always aware, use reflectors and warning lights accordingly.
• Give Room In Front Of Your Truck Always give enough space in front of your vehicle. Driving at 50mph will keep you out of trouble when others are doing 65mph. The cushion in front of your truck will keep you protected all the time.

• Stay On Your Lane As Much As Possible Road accidents significantly increase each time a vehicle makes a shift to another lane. Pick a lane and stay in it as much as possible.
• Take Breaks And Check Your Vehicle Take a regular break as needed. Give yourself a rest and walk around and check your truck and trailer. Look for anything possible that will put you at risk when on the road.
