According to Engineers, we can’t build a strong structure on a weak foundation. The tallest skyscrapers on earth have the deepest and most robust groundwork. It does not only apply to the buildings but to everything that needs to stand tall, last long, and be strong.

Preparation is important, this includes planning, forecasting, and computations. Preparing the site that will serve as the foundation for the storage containers is certainly of significance before cargo will be delivered as you want your site not to incline from its place.

Regardless of what the container may hold, make sure that you have considered the tips discussed below.

• Does it have adequate space? – It is vital to consider whether the area is large enough to accommodate a container. Keep in mind that containers come in several sizes including 8ft, 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft.

There has to be enough room for the truck to make wide turns and safely get in place to slide the container off the tilt bed/sideloader/loading bay. Watch out for steep hills, sharp turns, and horseshoe bends.

• Is the ground compact and firm? – Check whether it’s level or not, a level site helps ensure the container is level, and a level container ensures the doors are easy to open and close. Next, is the soil compacted and solid enough to prevent the container and delivery vehicle from sinking into it?

The weight of the truck, trailer and container together can be over 20 Tonne, so soft or muddy surfaces may cause the truck to get stuck.

• Does it have access to trucks? – When choosing your site for the container keep in mind it is not just the footprint of the container to consider – you must also have enough access for the truck to deliver the container.
• Types of Footing – A container can sit directly on level ground, or we can place it on footings to keep the container off the ground. Concrete footings are ideal when the container is going to be located in the same place for a prolonged period. You can form up the concrete and have the container loaded onto the footings. It is also advisable to use rubber between the container and the concrete.

Preparing a delivery site for a shipping container will ensure there are no problems once the container is in place. This planning needs to be careful and thorough. The location where the container will sit needs to be decided based on several factors.
