The length of an Australian road train can vary, but according to the NHVR, the typical length of a road train is 53.5 metres. According to the NHVR, if the vehicle is 22-30m it is classified as a long vehicle. If it is over 30m long, then it is classified as a road train.
What is a Road Train?
A road train is a prime mover or truck that pulls two or more trailers. In NSW, there are type 1 and type 2 road trains. Type 1 includes A-double road trains, modular B-triples, AB-triples and Rigid Truck Combinations. Type 2 are A-triple road trains where a prime mover is towing three trailers. Road Train Signage Requirements
Western Australia has changed it’s signage requirements for long vehicles and road trains, in order to show the pictorial length of the vehicle. This will help drivers better gauge the length of the road trains in front of them, helping to improve their decision making in overtaking. WA sign requirements.
