The Australian Rail Track Corporation Inaugurates the Narrabri–Moree Route

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has reopened 83 km of upgraded Inland Rail track between Moree and Narrabri, with work finished in time to assist the transport of grain to Australian export ports. For the first time in seven months, trains are now operating on this piece of track.

Construction work was done by ARTC Inland Rail to build new drainage culverts, bridges, and embankments. Additionally, concrete sleepers were used to replace the old wooden ones, and new ballast and steel rails were installed.

Large-scale earthworks to restore the railway foundation were also finished to increase the rail line’s flood resistance, which demonstrated resilience through recent adverse weather in the area.

Additionally, 57 level crossings throughout the route have had their safety improved to meet current Australian and ARTC requirements.

Ten more level crossings have undergone an update from passive to active controls, gaining boom barriers, bells, and flashing lights in the process.

The amount of time it takes a vehicle to pass a level crossing has been decreased because of the installation of new rubber crossing panels, larger and brighter signs, and improved road approaches at all crossings.

To move over four billion tonnes of products across the nation each year, Australia’s supply chains depend on a secure, dependable, and efficient transportation network, according to Minister of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government Catherine King.

More than 1930 individuals, including 623 locals, have found employment thanks to this national infrastructure initiative. More than $196 million was spent on goods and services to assist the development, and local companies are also profiting from it. Twelve Indigenous firms from throughout Australia received a portion of the $15.2 million invested to build Inland Rail in central west NSW.

For years to come, this initiative will continue to promote jobs, open doors, and improve communication in the area.

The line’s completion in time for the start of the grain harvest season and with the least possible disruption to agricultural activities have been top priorities for ARTC Inland Rail.
