On June 3, 2022, more than 500 customers, dealers, business partners, and members of the media attended a magnificent event at Brisbane’s Archerfield airport where Kenworth unveiled the newest model of its well-known and adored K Series cabover line, the new K220.

Since the prime mover entered the Australian transportation market, the K series has been a mainstay of the Kenworth line. For the K220, Kenworth concentrated on enhancing driver comfort and integrating technology for a more beneficial ownership experience.

The redesigned wind-cheating roof profile is the biggest outward alteration. The new roof profile, which was created using computational fluid dynamics, increases aerodynamic efficiency by 4%.

Analogue gauges for air pressure and driveline temperatures are now located on a panel to the left of the driver on the dash, which is now a 15-inch high-definition instrument panel.

Early intervention warnings for the driver are shown on the main instrument panel, and the K220 will run a thorough systems check at the beginning of each working day with the push of a button. Additionally, it will show a thorough trip and vehicle summary after a shift, including data on average fuel efficiency, idle time, and cruise control usage as well as any potential mechanical problems.

Every K220 comes with PACCAR Connect, an in-house telematics system that provides real-time tracking and monitoring of fleet, driver, and vehicle performance.

The brand-new 8-inch Audio Visual Navigation (AVN) unit offers a simple-to-use display with controls for smartphone mirroring, the audio system, and truck navigation. Up to six external cameras can be cleverly connected with the AVN to give drivers a complete view of everything going on around the vehicle.

There are several different configurations for the K220. The main variants available range from nominally 97t GCM up to 250t GCM and beyond, and include 64, 84, 84 tandem with lazy axle, 86, 104 tandem with lazy axle, and 106.

With the addition of multi-lane autonomous emergency braking and stop-and-go capabilities, the K220 boasts the broadest variety of active and passive safety choices ever provided by Kenworth Australia, improving the safety of drivers and other road users.

The new 18-speed Endurant XD Pro automated manual transmission, which has been designed from the ground up as an AMT rather than a retro-engineered manual, can be installed on the K220 and is optimised for the Cummins X15 Euro VI and Euro V engines.
