According to a recent national survey by independent researchers StollzNow Research, many Australian drivers feel secure among trucks.
According to survey results for the National Road Transport Association (NatRoad), 81% of Australians think truck drivers are respectful of other road users.
According to the research, just four out of ten respondents can recall an event in the last month in which a truck driver drove negligently, despite the fact that many people believe truckers drive safely around other road users.
For anational study, StollzNow Research used an online panel of 1000 adults (18 and older). According to NatRoad, the research revealed unexpected findings but strong backing for driver education and license testing as the main priorities when it comes to truck awareness.
According to Scott Davidson, chairman of NatRoad, 96% of Australian drivers believe they manoeuvre their vehicles safely around trucks, but that percentage falls to 48% when driving around people.
As per Davidson, “Australians are aware of the importance of driving safely around trucks, even if they don’t always do it.”
“About 89 percent of people say they are aware that trucks might not be able to see their cars, and 85 percent are aware that they should provide enough space for a truck to safely stop before changing lanes.
“While that is encouraging, the research strongly favors the call for enhanced motorist education.”
According to the report, 92% of Australians believe that the driver education and licence testing processes must include an obligatory section on truck awareness.
