How can Flat Webbing and Polyester Round Slings be used Safely?

Lifting slings are a great way to move very heavy, bulky loads without having to use a lot of your strength. However, using them is not always simple, and with so many different brands and types of slings available, you have a plethora of options. Our Tegral team can tell you about the various types of slings and how to tie them, and if you need to know how to use lifting slings safely, here are some pointers to help you get the most out of your investment.

  1. Before using the sling, always check it for damage.

Never use a lifting sling that is broken. If the sling were to fail while in use, the load may fall, which could result in accidents or fatalities at work as well as damage to pricey equipment. Always inspect your lifting slings before using them.

  1. Make sure you’ve selected the appropriate lifting sling for the task at hand.

Webbing and round slings are the two forms of lifting slings. To protect the load, webbing slings have a bigger surface area; in contrast, round slings are flexible and may conform to a variety of load shapes.

  1. Never go beyond the hoisting sling’s working load limit.

Knowing the weight of the load you are lifting can help you choose the right lifting sling. You must utilise a lifting sling with a working load limit of 20 tonnes rather than 15 tonnes if you are lifting a load that weighs 17 tonnes. The WLL varies depending on the lifting sling. If you go beyond this limit, you risk damaging the load you’re lifting and the lifting sling you’re employing.

  1. Verify that the load is fastened.

To ensure optimum control and to prevent any slipping, sliding, or movement of any loose elements of the load, all slings must be tightly fastened to the load. A qualified worker must choose the best rigging technique while attaching the slings.

  1. Ensure that the lifting point is directly above the gravity centre.

When lifting a big object, it’s crucial to locate the centre of gravity before you start lifting. To have complete control over the load you are lifting, you must identify its centre of gravity. If the weight is improperly secured, the centre of gravity will shift precisely beneath the lifting point, which could cause the load to swing and damage the load or hurt other workers.
