Danish DSV to Surpass DHL with Record-Breaking Schenker Acquisition

Denmark’s DSV has made a bold move in the logistics world, agreeing to acquire Schenker, the logistics arm of Deutsche Bahn, for 14.3 billion euros ($15.9 billion). This acquisition is not only Denmark’s largest-ever deal but will also catapult DSV above its competitors like DHL Logistics and Kuehne und Nagel, making it the largest logistics provider worldwide. Starting in 1976 as a small team of truck drivers, DSV has grown through strategic acquisitions, but this takeover marks their biggest transaction to date. Despite the acquisition giving DSV a significant presence, it will still only capture 6-7% of the fragmented global logistics market. The combined group is expected to generate revenue of $43.52 billion, with a workforce of 147,000 across 90 countries. While there are concerns about job losses in Schenker’s German operations, DSV has assured that the group will invest heavily in Germany and create more jobs over time. The deal is expected to finalise by mid-2024, pending regulatory approvals.
