Maybe you are carting your first load or maybe you have been using ratchet straps for ages but still have not got your head around what pre-tension is.
So, what’s all the fuss about pre-tension and why is it important?
One of the biggest mistakes is thinking that having a 2500kg LC Ratchet tie down (RTD) running directly over the load will provide 2500kg of pre-tension. This is not the case.
Typically, a standard 50mm x 2500kg LC RTD will only provide around 300kg downward force.
That 300kg is the pre-tension, don’t get this mixed up with the load capacity of the RTD.
